5 reasons why the MAXIFY GX7050 can save you time and money

"Our documents need to match the quality of our drawings," says Ian Scullion, one of a team of three busy architects working at Fasciato Architects in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, UK. "As a brand, a unified appearance across our printed material is important."

Alongside the A3 and A0 architectural drawings the firm creates for projects, it also needs to produce a lot of regular-sized prints, whether that's documents for clients or planning applications.

In a competitive marketplace, every business needs to look good on paper. Canon's MAXIFY business printers are fast, easy to use and deliver premium quality for a very low total cost of ownership.

Here, Ian and Canon product specialist Zubair Rahim reveal the benefits of using a Canon MAXIFY GX7050 printer in your workplace.

Ian was particularly impressed with the quick and easy setup of the MAXIFY GX7050. "The whole installation process only took about 10-15 minutes," he says. "Each of the four ink bottles is individually keyed and colour-coded, so you physically can't pour ink into the wrong tank. You don't need to squeeze the bottles, and the ink automatically stops flowing when the tank is full, so there's no mess."

He also enjoyed the print and scanning speeds, as him and his colleagues often work to tight deadlines. A single page print takes about seven seconds, with multi-page mono or colour print speeds being around 24 or 15.5 ipm¹.

"One of the advantages of the GX7050 over the GX6050 is that it is equipped with single-pass scanning for double-sided documents," explains Zubair. "Dual scanning elements mean you don't have to scan one side, flip the page and scan the other. If you've got a stack of 2 sided documents that saves a lot of time and effort."

If you want a smaller and more affordable MAXIFY printer then the GX6050 is the kit for you.

The quality of the documents a business sends out can be crucial in terms of how it is viewed by its clients. "We sometimes submit entries for awards or competitions and we also like to print images for the office using different paper types," says Ian. "The print quality of the MAXIFY GX7050 is much better than other printers we've used in the past."

"The GX7050 and GX6050 are the first printers in the MegaTank refillable ink tank series that use pigment inks for all three colours as well as for black," adds Zubair. "This enables them to create really crisp, solid-looking text and rich, vibrant colour rendition for graphics, with incredible fine detail that preserves the appearance of even the smallest fonts, often used for fine-print in legal documents."

The MAXIFY GX7050 has three paper input trays. The two front cassettes can take 250 sheets each (the GX6050 only has one front cassette) and the rear tray holds 100 sheets. "We like the versatility that the multiple trays give us," says Ian. "The rear tray is particularly suitable for specialist media, so you can print glossy or matte photo paper, envelopes, labels, business cards, magnetic stationery and even banners up to 1.2 metres in length. It's like a one-stop shop for all our printing needs.

"I really like being able to print documents direct from my phone," he adds. "It's also great to scan documents and send them direct via email, using the touchscreen, or save them to a USB stick plugged into the front of the printer. You also get the choice of scanning them to a network folder. Everything is so intuitive and the whole process is really streamlined."

"We use WhatsApp to engage with clients who sometimes send us images or documents that way, so being able to print straight from our phones is very helpful," says Ian. "We also use a tablet, so if we're discussing an issue with a client, we can easily print off a document or drawing and then sketch over it. Scanning hardcopies to a USB stick is also a more effective storage method than retaining large paper files."

It's also useful for people working off site to be able to create prints in the office to be shared or signed off. "PIXMA Cloud Link enables you to print from anywhere through the Canon PRINT app," Zubair adds. "You can also scan documents remotely using your smart device's camera, and print them back at base, or scan documents in the office using the printer and send them to a smartphone."

Key benefits of the GX7050 – and the GX6050 – are the low running costs and the low total cost of ownership. "We split this into the average cost per page and the total cost to the business over, around five years, including the price of the printer itself as well as the consumables," explains Zubair. "Both are really low with these printers. You can expect average savings of 85% on the total cost of ownership vs the top 10 laser and inkjet printers.⁴"

This is great news for firms such as Ian's. "We're really pleased that the GX7050 will give us such a big cost saving," he says.
